Beatles fans from around the globe came to revel in celebration of the Fab Four while contributing generously to the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross received 40 percent of the revenue generated from tickets purchased through a special website and $5 from every ticket sold at the box office during the five-day festival over Labor Day weekend. In addition, auctions featuring two Gretsch guitars netted the Red Cross over $5,000.
A proclamation from Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley was presented to festival organizer Gary Jacob by CEO Linda Mathes and Communication Director Cheryl Kravitz. The proclamation honored Red Cross and the festival.
The Fab Four have reached the ears and hearts of people since the 1960s. These tunes have no boundaries. Ashley Walton, 25, from Mechanicsville, MD, said, “Our Dad listened to Beatles our whole lives and we just grew to love them.” There were also many fans that dressed up as their favorite Beatle in their favorite era.
Men, women and children at the generously donated at the Red Cross booth and purchased Red Cross merchandise. The weather at the event was a balmy 80 degrees and at the end of Saturday night all were treated to spectacular fireworks show that was unrivaled. The American Red Cross presence was strong in trying to achieve relief for people from all over the world and through the music of the Beatles.
Thank you to our spectacular volunteer Masood Farshori for these wonderful pictures taken on Saturday at Abbey Road on the River!!!
